First and foremost , I thank Kadike Trust and the weavers for the handwoven sarees.

Handlooms have always been a part of our heritage. The intrinsic value behind these wefts and warps, threads and yarns, colours and hues, is immeasurable. Meeting Mrs Mamatha Rai, Kadike Trust and visiting Talipady Society, was enlightening..

Their efforts are commendable. I have been adding these handwoven sarees to my collection be it 40 or 60 or 80 count. I am elated to share these sarees with my friends too. Easy to maintain, comfortable to wear, and above all, a great feel.. Mix and match with different blouses, this drape has its own beautiful charm.

“ Many hands make more yardage”

I believe strongly that any art or tradition will never face extinction, if there is no constant revival efforts and encouragement. The unstinting efforts have culminated in enabling the looms function and more and more are turning to train in this art / skill.

I live in the United States and often feel homesick for Karnataka. Recently, my mother, Saraswathi Vattam got me Yaksha Udupi saree from India and I was overjoyed. I don’t wear sarees often, so I thought it would be difficult to adjust to wearing it. In fact, I’m not even used to draping the sari properly and rely on YouTube videos! But it was so easy and natural to drape this. I tried my best!

In the past, I have learned yakshagana from yakshaguru Prasad Cherkady so this saree has a special place in my heart. Thank you so much for such a wonderful saree and great initiative to revive handloom culture in India.

Udupi- the holy land of Lord Krishna.

Not only famous for its cuisine but also equally famous for its handloom. I came across this handloom variety of sarees after a long and extended search and finally got it through Mamata Rai of Udupi. She introduced me to Udupi sarees and I loved the feel and the texture of handloom in these sarees. I kept on buying them as they almost became an addiction with me. Good things don’t need any advertisement like fragrant flowers . I still keep buying the sarees and I feel absolutely cosy and comfortable in these sarees.

Thank you , Mamata, for getting me such brilliantly woven sarees .On Our National Handloom Day I offer my best wishes to all the weavers and the promoters of handloom for keeping a rich tradition alive.

Long live handloom!

Udupi sarees are for me an emotion Till a few years ago draping a saree was reserved for special occasions. Discovering the beauty elegance simplicity and comfort of handlooms has changed that. Was intrigued when I first heard of Udupi sarees, then I was fortunate to get in touch with Mamataji and see first hand what a wonderful effort she and her team of weavers are putting in to revive this timeless weave. I wait eagerly for new collections to be posted and fall in love every single time I have bought several and I am sure I will buy more, both for gifting and personal use.

I love the colors, textures, fall, motifs and the little card with the picture of the weaver and some information about them. The whole experience from selecting a saree to payment and receiving the unique handmade product is a hassle free experience 😘😊😌 All the best to Mamataji and her team, keep up the good work

Resurgence…
Somewhere near Mangalore, an elderly couple, traversing the journey of life, sticking together through thick and thin…and were content in their cosy nest….💑

As fate had it, the heart of the home, the lady slipped and fell, factured her arm…the onus was now on her dear husband to run the show…
He managed everything, cooking, cleaning, mopping…with a consummate ease…

But, but, but…the dear lady couldn’t bend her arm, so he had to drape her the saree, fold her saree, put her saree to wash/ dry….
It was then he realised the intricacies embedded in the 6 yards of beauty…the skill required to drape it in exquisite style…the pallu, the pleats, the border…everything went tanget to his dexterity..

He was perplexed and blurted out once she recovered, that how do ladies manage to drape, fold, carry in style, this ensemble…

Lady smiled and replied, such is the love for sarees…it wraps gently by itself, it’s a poem, an opera, a concert, an emotion so beautiful…it just illuminates hearts 💕

How can Udupi saree be left behind? A pure cotton beauty…A saree so soft, simple and elegant…Weaved to fineness, with immeasurable warmth, skill and affection❣

A phenomenal revival project is ongoing for the saree on the verge of extinction. Kudos to all of them behind this renaissance …Hope Udupi saree find way to saree enthusiast’s wardrobe and heart…
